New HR6 compressor PAG 46 or 150 PAG? (Page 1/1)
fierobug JUN 26, 11:11 AM
Would somebody please clarify which oil to use for the HR6 compressor. It is an everco four seasons. Autozone has PAG 46 stated. Gm has 150 PAG recommended for HR6 compressors. I am going to call SMP corporation that owns them tomorrow to clarify but need your input to help.

This may start a war, but I used ester oil. It was listed as compatible with R-12 and R-134, so any bits of oil that were left in the system wouldn't cause any problems. Been running great for 3 yrs now with out any problems. And I'm using the same Auto Zone HR-6 compressor.

PAG oil is only recommended for OEM use when a brand new system is installed. It easily gets contaminated when put in old R-12 systems. . Ester oil is the preferred oil when doing an R-134a conversion. I've used Ester oil in my 3800SC swap with the GTP A/C compressor and 6 years later the A/C is still blows very cold air. .

Typically the compressor will come with instructions on what oil to use. Usually with new compressors, it's PAG46.

What is the difference between the HR6 and DA6 compressors? Can either be used on v-6 Fiero or is one of them better to use?

do NOT use PAG oil, unless you replaced EVERYTHING in the system, all lines EVERY line, condenser, evaporator EVERYTHING. Use ester oil.

DA6 Vs HR6
HR6 is better for 134a, otherwise outside is identical.

THanks guys this will be my second attempt - 1st was conversion got a few years out of the reman - then sludged up. Will continue with ester oil.

Exactly what "sardonyx247" stated above! I did mine and it's been running for over 4 years now, no recharge and no issues, blows ice cold. Car get about 200 mile a week put on it.
I live outside of Seattle, WA. summers mostly high 70's to mid 80's but we do get runs of mid to high 90's. My driving is about 70* rush hour and 30* freeway.
Best of luck with your project!

If your A/C system is "sludged up" it must be flushed clean before recharging paying careful attention to the condenser. PAG oil is only recommended to be used in perfectly clean new systems. Ester is the recommended oil for a R134a conversion.
