What may cause my idle surging? [VIDEO] (Page 1/4)

Hi guys!

I have a 1986 Pontiac FIERO SE 2.8l V6, 4 speed.

The car strangly, and for no reasons, has a surging idle!
Once warm the car idles from 1000rpm to 1200rpm...

Checked my vaccum lines, no cracks, new IAC, Throttle body cleaned with carb cleaner...

If you look at my video below, what may cause my engine to run like this?

Thanks a lot for your help!
Chris

Still might be a vacuum leak - intake manifold gasket, EVAP valve, brake booster, etc. Also misadjusted TPS or throttle open just a little (not resting against throttle stop).

Idle should be 800rpm or so. Have you replaced the vacuum lines and hoses yet? If it has cruise control, try removing and plugging those lines.

How to check engine vacuum:

Fuel pressure? Last time filter was replaced?

Been dealing with a similar issue with my rebuilt 2.8 auto... Surges BAD when cold, but after running a while it settles down. Still surges about 100-150 rpm when warm. Very frustrating! I'll be watching this thread

I was going to say that too.

Does it change at all, get worse when you turn things on? For instance rad fan, ac, blower fan, lights...
Have a non stock stereo?

I also have an 86 2.8 4speed SE that is doing something similar. It surges a little on a cold start but settles down once warm to 1100-1200 rpm. But doesn't surge quickly, very slow. Just up or down, fairly steady in fact it isn't surging at that point. Just idles there at one of those.
I've sprayed ether all over the engine, and luckily no fires, but also not any change in engine speed.
The only code I get is a 32 for the Egr, and it doesn't turn on the SES light until I'm on the highway. Pretty certain it's the solenoid. So I'm not stressing on that.

How are your plugs and wires?
Also, is it running rich? Seems like that could just cause it to run a little faster at idle but I'm not an expert....just hypothesizing.

The suggestion of another ground is interesting. Where would anyone suggest to put a second ground? Seems like an easy thing to do.

Any thoughts from anyone on the oxygen sensor?
Or the sensor in the air cleaner?
Or the oil pressure sensor?

Like others I'll be watching to see what you inure out.

I'm pretty sure that was covered in the thread I linked to.

That thread is one of the more oddest threads I've run across. I remember when it came out. You'd think adding a ground would cure cancer. But I did add an additional ground on my car in the same spot. Can't hurt and can only lower resistance for all electrical components.
