1985 4 cyl / auto. Is there any "Easy way" to replace the throttle cable without having to tear half the car apart ? anyone found a way to Fish it through ?
my wifes car's throttle cable just broke. I ordered a new one from Fierostore. Any "experiences " with their cables ? Thanks

You have to take the center console, radio/HVAC surround, and the center console skeleton out to replace the throttle cable. It is clipped in place on the pedal end that is inside the center tunnel, so I normally remove the bolts holding the pedal in place so I can flip the cable end up and disconnect/connect the cable. The sleeve of the cable is clipped in place deep in the center tunnel so you need to get your fingers or a screw driver in there to release it. The rest of it is pretty basic...

The first time I did one, it was a pain... just another reason why I love drive by wire!

I know this is an old thread, but a relevant question is a relevant question: Can the cable housing/sheath be left in place, the old cable pulled out of it, and a new cable slid into it?

This is what is frequently done with many other control cables in various other applications. My guess is that if even feasible for a Fiero application, the barrel on the end of the cable at the engine would need to be snipped off before the old cable could be pulled out of its housing/sheath. Of course, that would mean that barrel end on the new cable would also have to be snipped off before the new cable could be inserted into the housing. If so, new barrel ends for cables are readily available, so a new one could be added back onto the new cable after installation of the cable.

Just thinking out loud here. What am I missing?

Thanks.

If the housing/casing is in good shape I see no reason why the inner cable can't be replaced. You can purchase a new cable end that crimps on for the pedal side and on the throttle side you can just make a loop. I did this on my 4.9L swap.

Zactly, Dennis. I saw your loop solution. Here's what I've used on other cables before and what I would think will work also on a Fiero:

Try it and report back.

I will. BTW , I routinely replace those common head screws with allen head set screws. In a Fiero application that would leave you with just the brass barrel to fit into the hole in the throttle cam on the throttle body. No need to have to work around the large head of a screw protruding from the end of the barrel.
