3500 2.0 (Page 1/2)

Hi I am thinking about getting a 3500 to do an engine swap. This will be my second lx9 swap so i want to do this one a little different as I ran the last one off a 7165 ecm. I plan on putting in a solid roller cam that I have. Running a higher compression ratio will be easier with race gas "E-85". Just trying to get input as far as running this thing I don't want to run a 7x crank trigger wheel like last time. Whats the best option obd2, ms3 or something else.

MS3 can read the LX9 wheel , it's an LS1 24x wheel. tuning using OBD2, as far as I can see, will require using the stock PCM, which as I understand, isn't very tunable. a possible option that I stumbled across, but never really dug too deep into, was using LX5 "shortstar" programming. the LX5 uses a cable throttle (that's commonly used on LX9 swaps) coil per cylinder ignition, and a 24x wheel. I haven't seen the wheel pattern to compare to an LX9/LS1 wheel though.

your options as I see them without a 7x wheel:

Stock LX9 PCM (not sure how well that will work)
MS3
Microquirt

With a 7x wheel:

obd1
3100/3400/3800 PCM
MS1/2/3
Microsquirt

ericjon262 I thought the lx9 used the 58x wheel. My goal is cnp ignition.

the high value (VVT) engines use 58x,

the LX9 uses 24x, I have personally verified this as fact.

The red trace is a screenshot from the tunerstudio log, the bottom is a graph of the LS1 24x wheel. if you want, I can take a picture of the crank in the garage as well.

I am currently setting my car up with an MS3 Pro ultimate, and will be running 6 "LS7" ignition coils. please excuse the mess, it's a work in progress.

yeah, it probably doesn't exist, as far as I am aware, the only OBD2 XDF's available for TunerPro are the LS1 V8 XDF's. I used DHP and Tiny tuner to read and view files. I'd be willing to bet that it's the same wheel pattern, the problem is that the LX5 uses a dual wheel, and collects both a positive and negative signal from the CKP, and the sensor doesn't fit the LX9 block, so I'm not sure it would work. Tiny Tuner is free, from here:

http://www.theblattners.com...nyTuner/Default.html

if you use it, make sure you enable the database, it will provide more parameter to tune.

Also, the LX5 and LX9 both use "Fast start" 1X reluctor on the camshaft, all aftermarket cams that I am aware of for the LX9 use a "slow start" 1X reluctor, I'm not sure if this would pose a problem or not.

Fast start reluctors are 175 degree reluctors, slow start are a single tooth, or a single missing tooth of about 5 degrees.

hell yeah! what are your plans for engine management? is the engine already built or are you about to get started?

Terrible photo, but it looks like the red-headed stepchild '00-'05 Northstar wheel.

I'm 99% sure that the shortstar is 24x, it's called out in tiny tuner as being so, and the 24x wheel is similar to the N* wheels., without seeing the wheel flat, or a log of the pattern, it would be difficult to tell.
