Getrag shift cables placement (Page 1/2)

This maybe a dumb question but it’s been 13 months since I started the removal and rebuild of my cradle and v6 engine. Placed it back in yesterday but I’m stumped on how one of the Getrag shift cables are placed. I know the select cable runs along the fire wall and under to the bracket on the transmission as this can be seen in some pictures online and the manual. The one I’m puzzled with is the shift cable. Does it run over the exhaust cross over pipe? I would find this an odd set up being so close to the exhaust and for the life of me I can’t remember how it was placed. Any picture(S) would help or any suggestions on how’s it’s placed. Thank you in advance.

Thank you I happen to have this in the factory manual as well. Problem is it doesn’t show how it’s placed at the engine. If you see my photo the cable sits right on the exhaust? Doesn’t seem correct to me.

The EGR vacuum line is extra long and in the way, but I think the select cable should be on the other side of the exhaust. 88 Y pipes had that extra heat shield, so it's going to be close.

Yes, too funny. I made all new vacuum lines and left this one long until everything was bolted in. I will have to cut it for sure. Ok so it does go in that direction. What an odd placement. Thank you again.

It goes over the crossover pipe as you have it. I have an 87 with tin heat shielding above the crossover.

It is close but it is what it is. The shielding plus the wrap on the cables seems to do the job. (old pic)

Correct, it goes right over the exhaust like that. That's what the heat sleeve is there for.

So I'm trying to hook up my used Getrag select cable, after reinstalling the engine/trans into the car.

I believe i have the select cablr routing right according to service manual, above diagram, etc. but i cant seem to get the cable through the trans bracket (arrow) and select lever (arrow) similtaneously. the bracket and select lever seem to be misaligned with eachother. is there a trick to this?

Looks like the bracket on the transmission is bent. The cable should go through the hole in the bracket and make almost a straight shot to the select lever.
This is a later FWD tranny. Doesn't have a slave cylinder in the same place as yours.

Thank you! I was wondering that after i posted this. Makes sense because i used this as a lifting lug when hoisting the engine out. Ill try bending it back to align with the lever.
