Rear suspension/bearing noise? (Page 1/1)
lurtz AUG 11, 09:30 PM
84 Base model MY8 with 123k miles. When making hard right turns at speed and louder under load, I hear a grinding/groaning noise from what I can best surmise is the rear passenger wheel area. I am assuming this is a bad wheel bearing, but it make no noise at any other point , and I do not notice any extra play in the wheel. Could it be a suspension component, or cv-joint? I have new motor and transmission mounts to install, because the old ones appear to be original.

Any suggestions?

Most likely a rear passenger bad bearing hub. Replace with a new bearing hub for best results.
If you don't have much money, you can get one from a wrecker, but make sure its an GM original
or stock bearing.

Very likely Wrong.

Noise when turning is very often Bent "Dirt" shields on one or more rotors.
Front and rear wheel bearings are Not PRELOADED and some "run-out" as wheel play is normal.
So when shield is bent even a little can hit the rotor when turning. More so w/ tight exit ramps on a highway because will keep a lot more Lat-G on the car.

If rotor have been replace... some rotors aren't made right can do same but in the open end of the rotor's Hat area in the center.
