Voltage loss starter circuit (Page 1/1)

The starter circuit of my GT loses voltage. At least that is what I expect. Installed a brand new 700 CCA 80Ah battery and I only hear a click. When I add a heavy jump battery on top the starter spins. Unpredictable btw.
I suspect there is a voltage drop in the circuit. I would need to systematically test it. Does anybody have a tip where to start and does someone have a electrical circuit drawing of the 86 V6?
Thanks

"V-drop issues" could be iffy battery cable and even an iffy battery or starter. Or all of them.

Where do you buy the "new" starter?
E-bay and others has many crap/counterfeit parts so if bought there that can be your problem.
New, Used and Rebuilt starters can have problems too. New/Rebuilt take to local store and have them test.

Where did you get battery cables?
Didn't get new? Old cables can be bad and still try to work.
Made them? DIY cables often have problems.

V-drop test is for this...
+... 1 probe to battery other to solenoid.
Grd... 1 probe to battery other to starter case.
Which probe goes where doesn't matter. Ignore minus if meter show it.
Start engine w/ disable ignition so you have time to read meter.

Test w/ probe on battery lead terminal if possible. Bolts and cable ends can be a problem.

Testing starter for DIY amp draw needs things to handle 300+ DC Amps...
DC Amp clamp isn't cheap. Most Amp Clamp are AC Only for that function.
Make/made cheap DC starter/alt testers basically a "meter" you hold on a wire to starter or alt out to read. Not perfect but give a good ballpark to see.
