Mystery tank (Page 1/1)

My 87 Gt (350 swap) has this small steel tank tucked up under the passenger side rear fender. I think it was part of the original emissions systems, possibly connected to the fuel tank vent hose? Can anyone provide clarity on the function of this tank. TIA, DP

Fuel Vapor Tank between fuel tank and charcoal canister.
Since gas cap is not vented, there has to be a vent line so fuel tank doesn't get pressurized or get a vacuum.
Sort of a "catch can" in vent line to prevent raw fuel from being pushed into charcoal canister and ruining it.

Thanks Fierosound, that drawing helps me a lot. Now I can re-plumb it correctly to the CC in the engine compartment. DP
