Intake manifold questions (Page 1/1)

Hey guys and gals. Hope all is well with y’all.

While replacing my clutch I came across a broken EGR Tube, who knows how long it was broken, but it certainly had time to cover the inside of the intake manifold with LOADS of oil/dirt.

It also covers the inside of the middle plenum and throttle body. There’s grime everywhere. I’m honestly shocked my 88GT has not had any issues idling or driving.

Question 1
How do I even try to clean all of this and should I?

Question 2

For some reason, the manifold was sealed on with RTV, boy was that some serious prying required to pull of the manifold, how do I safely clean this off and should I reinstall with RTV or should I use a gasket like it had stock?

Thanks for your help.

Any Oregonians out there?

On second look, my mechanic friend, it isn’t RTV at all. Just a black gasket.

So update to second question.

Should I scrape off this gasket or reuse it?

Scrape it all off. Clean with brake cleaner, mineral sprits, or the like. Reinstall using new gaskets that are readily available. All pretty easy.

Rodney Dickman has your new EGR pipe. His is better than OEM.
