Will this work to solve LCA to brake rotor interference using lowering ball joints? (Page 1/1)

Good Afternoon, All,

After reading posts concerning grinding the lower control arm (LCA) when using Rodney's lowering ball joints I had a thought (lonely thing rattling around up there all by itself!):


Why not put a spacer between the hub and the rotor mounting surface of a thickness such that the brake rotor is moved outwards enough to clear the the LCA throughout the suspension's range of travel? Kind of like having a thicker top on the 'hat' of the rotor.


Longer studs would be required, of course, and the wheel would be moved outward as well....but, I THINK the geometry would be maintained.

No expert at this end, so you experts are requested to come an blow holes in this idea!

Spacer would likely need to be 1/4" or more wide, it really depends on rotors, tire diameter and desired stance. At that width, the rotor hat will be off the rotor pilot and sitting on the wheel pilot - these two pilot surfaces are different OD and will require a different concentric rings. This effectively moves the tires out from the suspension pivot, so scrub radius will increase 1/4", which will slightly increase turning effort and suspension kickback.

The bigger issue with the 88 that is you need the rotor to be close to the nose of the lower a-arm to make room for the thickness of the caliper bracket. The brackets for common kits are 5/16 to 3/8" and taking 1/4" from them (which would be required to push the rotor outward) isn't a good option.
