Anyone sporting 215 tires on stock 88 front rims? (Page 1/1)

Curious if anyone is running a pair of 215/60R15 in the front of their 88s on the stock front rims? I know their wider than the stock 205s for the front, but my question is by how much, in the sense of does it look goofy? I know the rim is 1" thinner than the rears... Any adverse handling effects? Slight increase in steering effort I'm sure with the slightly more road contact in the front...

Reason I ask is because as you guys know 15 inch tires are slim pickings these days... Lots of no name China brands and "fuel economy" options, though I found that Firestone makes a summer tire for a 15 inch rim; Firestone Firehawk 900. They make a 215/60R15, but unfortunately not a 205/60R15. :/

With my 4.9 swap finally getting into motion, I want to start thinking about getting a nice set of summer shoes on the old girl to replace the beginning to dryrot all seasons she's sporting now.

I ran 215 front and 225 rear on 88 wheels for years.
No problemo.

Hey Shho, check out Cooper CS5 Ultra touring. Not too bad at all. I have them on one of my '88GTs

I know that this may not be the direction you want to go, but maybe run a 195/60-15 up front......I have a magazine with a test of the 1987 Lotus Esprit- it weighed the same as a Fiero GT and ran 195/60's up front. I was running 215s up front on my 85 SE V6 Fiero and switched to 205s and the steering was better.....General has the two sizes in their Altimax RT43 at Tire rack for total of $328....

Years (And years) ago I had 235 and 245 60 tires on my Comet GT on 6.75" wide ET wheels...I could push the rear sideways in the garage almost an inch because of the pinched in sidewalls.....Then I found some Appliance mags 8" wide- same tires but now they were held tight on those wider wheels- couldn't move the car at all sideways- you could feel the difference driving- before you could wiggle the wheel and the car would wiggle sideways back-and-forth, after the 8" wheels the car would just turn- instantly!

Another thing to consider is the wider the front tire the harder it is to turn, especially when parking.
