5 speed isuzu - how to split cases ? (Page 1/1)

Some time ago I bought a 5 speed isuzu of someone on ebay, 90 mins drive away so no shipping and pretty cheap (although maybe not now I get into it!). Anyway, moving on...

So today I come to take a look at it, pull the drain plug and there's a few small pieces of metal in the opening and a slight silver film i the little bit of oil that drained out.
I filled it with oil and drained it again and got a bit more of the silver stuff, not a lot, and no more metal bits.

I figured I was not going to put this box in my car until I know it's ok and as I had nothing to lose, I'd split the case and take a look.

But.......

This is as far apart as I can get the two parts.

I've pulled all the bolts around the edge (14 of them) and cannot see anything else externally that is holding it so am I missing something or is it just a matter of keep pulling at it until it gives up and comes apart?

As I recall, Chiltons Fiero manual and of course the actual Fiero Shop/Service Manual have disassembly instructions. I have both and can take a peek for you when I get over to where I've got them.

BTW I'm betting money the metal you found is from second gear.

I've got the FSM but it's really not very clear about how to split the cases on a 5 speed. In fact, unlike the 4 speed section, there does not seem to be a section specifically on how to split he cases, seems to go straight into removing shafts which is why I am asking. I figured someone on here must have done it.

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!
