88 Radiator Fan Relay Wiring (Page 1/1)

So when I removed my headlight assemblies to fix the motors, I noticed some cut wires with electrical tape and did some searching and am pretty sure they're for my radiator fan relay (which isnt there anymore for some reason). So I'm wanting to get a relay connector so I can plug my new relay in (previous owner already bought one) but the relay and the connector has 5 pins and 5 wires while I only have 4 wires that were cut with electrical tape. So there's the question. Why does the relay have 5 pins when I only have 4 wires? And while I'm here, would anyone know where each wire goes on the relay? I didn't cut it out so I don't know where they connect back to. My car is an 88 Coupe with the 4 cylinder.

Likely one of the connections of the substitute relay won't be needed.
(both a Normally Closed connection and Normally Open connection)
There should be a diagram on it somewhere.

Heavy Red & Black/Red wires on In/Out Normally Open "switch" side.
Thinner Brown/White and Dark Green/White wires on coil side.

Ah, alright. Then that 5th pin/wire must be just dead/unused. Thank you.

"new" relay is likely just standard car relay and all wires.
So...
2 are for the coil. DC Coil often has + and - and wired backward wiring will blow it's diode. Diode is anti surge protection for the car.
1 is common
1 is normal close
1 is normal open

common and open is for rad fan motor.
Extra wire must not short out. Ideally should be remove from socket.

Mount relay same as AC etc relays in engine bay or water will wreck it fast.
Coat metal w/ brake or silicone grease too.
