Unplugging C500 (Page 1/1)

Good afternoon, All,

I am going to unplug the C500 connector on my '88 GT to gain clear access to the power distribution block for cleaning and preservation.

Are there any tricks or watch-out-for's when unplugging C500? I know it is full of gunk...does it need to be renewed or treated or is it just unplug and replug?

TIA,

Larry

Just unplug and re-plug. It'll come out in two pieces. One half of the connector has a square plastic "loop" that fits around the other half of the connector.
If I remember correctly, the screw that holds it all together is "captive". You might have to back it out, and then pull the connector out a bit, and then back it out some more, etc...
That screw is also an uncommon size. (Like 8mm or something that isn't used anywhere else on the car. Might even be SAE. I'm pretty sure the terminal strip is SAE.)

When you put it all back together, make sure that everything is plugged back in securely. If not, you will have some interesting malfunctions. (The one I remember is intermittent tail lights.)
Don't worry about the gunk. It needs to be there. You're pretty much stuck with it.

IIRC, the bolt for the C500 is 1/4".

Thanks, Guys

It really sounds too good to be true for a Fiero!

Just did this today. Just unbolt it. I has two parts, well three technically. The two "half's" that connect to the "main" that attaches to the frame. As it backs out, just make sure to insure the "clips" are not stuck, you could break them. No gunk.
