Recommended oil filter for sitting '84 2m4? (Page 1/1)

I am looking for recommendations for a good oil filter for my fiero that has been sitting for around 20 years. After I get it running, I plan to change the oil and filter, among many other things. The current oil seems to be light and there looks to be enough of it in the system, but would it be a bad idea to run it first? I was thinking it would free up some of the debris and all that, and then I could change the oil and filter after. I saw that PF52 filters were recommended, but I can't find any in my local stores, only the PF52e which I have not heard good things about. What would be a good filter for my fiero?

I did a study a while back, and the best affordable filter I found for the 84 is the Wix 51036.

The PF52e is just a relabeled STP filter, you can see what the inside looks like compared to the PF52 in the link.

You would also be circulating that debris...

For any car that's been sitting so long it's usually good practice to change all fluids before firing the engine up.
Get it running, then monitor how the new oil looks and change the oil and filter again after a short time if needed.

Yes, At Minimum Charge Oil Before starting it. No idea what crap is in there because easy target for kids etc to put anything in it.
look in the fill port Before adding oil for same reason.

For now any 5w-30 oil and any of the "long format" filters is good enough since may need to change again soon.

Yes, PF52e is same as shorter PF52 in above link and http://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...120111-2-105330.html
Even has same GM # 19210286
PF52e Is Not a STP filter. STP doesn't Make filters but contract w/ whoever owns Fram now. STP S3980XL and related give away who makes them. Walmart filters are Fram filters too. And all are same size and All w/o "suregrip" paint at the end.

84 Requires a Long filter like older PF52 w/ or w/o Recall work was done.
PF52e and current x3980x are still better then short filters most Fiero still list to fit.

Do Not trust Oil Capacity in any "book" on 84!

read 84 recall carefully.

Fill oil then run to fill filter.
Wait 5 even 10-20 minutes, Check stick.
If needed, Add more to reach full.

Remember can take some time to see level on a stick most times. Adding a quart to the fill port often doesn't instantly drain to the pan even when engine is hot. Oil Drains in head and block are relatively small vs. the fill port. Worse if the engine has "dirt" problems in them.
