1988 Rear caliper (Page 1/1)

It looks like I`m ordering rear brake calipers.
I bought 2 rebuild kits from The Fiero store and after ruining both of the piston seals and still not knowing
how you get them on the flange on the caliper I give up.
I tried slowly pushing them on by hand then tried putting a hose clamp around them to push it evenly around the perimeter
I`m still no closer to getting them on.

Man, I wish you the best of luck. I'm working on my rear from the axles out to include the brakes. 88 calipers are like one of the rarest things on earth apparently (at a reasonable price). I've thought about rebuilding them, but haven't got this far yet.

I decided to take one more try at it.
I ordered a Kent Moore collar and clamp that installs those things.
Some people have said that it`s hit and miss to rebuld those calipers.
But, I have heard it said that even if you buy rebuilt ones it`s sometimes hit and miss.
So I figured I might as well save some money and try it myself.

I have placed my online order for two rebuild kits from CARiD. $9.50 each to include delivering to my door. I ordered Centric 143.62031. The listing shows 4 pieces. The FS listing shows 5 pieces. I'm not sure what the pieces are. Obviously the boot and piston seal. I think the 2-way check valve and shaft seal are included. I think the FS kit includes the brake lever seal whereas the Centric kit does not. I've queried the FS about their kit's contents, but I have not received a response.

Are you replacing the sleeve boots? I've only found these on the FS site. Pricey, but the only game in town often is. I'm not in a hurry so I'm taking a wait and see attitude about replacing them.

What Are you doing about your pins? I also ordered CENTRIC® 117.62044 - Front Disc Brake Hardware Kit. $5.87 delivered. Not sure I'll use them, but I wanted to see these pins. They are not roll pins that get pressed in and out. I think these are slightly smaller in diameter and push right in. They appear to be held in place with hairpin cotter pins. If so, this'll make future brake serving much easier.

I decided not to rebuild my calipers myself. I sent them to a shop in Chicago. I'll report my first impressions of the work when I get them back. It'll be awhile before I can actually road test them.

I had my calipers rebuilt at Phoenix Caliper.

I had ordered on ebay but it turned out to be a scam vendor.
I ended up using a hub centric ring that fit perfect and just used a large c-clamp to press it on.
