85 GT rear springs (Page 1/1)

Question, rebuilding a 85GT and am working on the rear.. the rear springs are the stiffest they made. Upon removing and cleaning, painting I noticed the right rear is about 3/8 shorter than the other. Assuming this is because the motor is favoring that side of the car. Would you keep the springs on the side they came from or swap sides ?

I'm only guessing... but maybe the longer spring is located on the left side to compensate for the weight of the driver? If so, I'd re-install the springs where you found them.

It's the same part number for both springs, so unless GM did the faux pas of having two distinct parts being assigned one part number (an amateur mistake), I'd chalk the difference to unequal sag or just imperfect spring tolerances.

My Fiero with me in the driver's seat has fairly equal weights on the rear tires:
Rear left: 360 kg
Rear right: 370 kg

The engine is shifted towards the right side of the car, so this balances the driver. I'm 55 kg, so with a more typical male driver sitting in the seat, it could be equal on both rear tires.

They both had the same part number... NYM if I remember right..... still undecided..
