I've pulled the steering from my 1988 notchback and removed the inner tie rods. I don't see any issues that will make me disassemble the rack, but I wonder if I should be adding lubrication. I don't see apparent leakage and the boots are in good shape. but should I be packing some type of lubricant before I reinstall the boots?

When I rebuilt the rack on my 86, I put grease on the teeth of the rack and wherever it had wear surfaces. No problems since. But if the rack showed no signs of leaking and all the rubber looks good and it has good freedom of movement I would not take it apart.
