Hi all

So I have an 85 2.5l that has 205k on it. It needs to be swapped or rebuilt. I have an 87 with 5k on a new crank and cam but it needs to be reringed because i did a horrible hone job and used mollyr ings. I put it on the shelf because a local Fiero person had an 88 that had 15k on a rebuild for a good price. I can't for the life of me remember if the crank on my 87 has gears. Will this swap work if i put all the 85 parts (intake, gear cover, front pulley, distributor)? Or is it incompatible because of the distributor config?

so 87/88 engine in 85?
Need 87/88 engine wiring and ECM, fuel lines, and likely more.
IOW close to same work installing V6.

Harder if car has AC because old HR/DA6 doesn't mount on 87/88 engine. No bracket parts, can't use serpent belt, etc.
Using V5 in older car is possible but need wire changes in rest of car.

If 85 has cruise isn't direct swap on 87/88 unless also has cruise cable for those engines.

85 L4 car is easest use 85/86 L4 engine. Could use 84 l4 but has different dist and TBI cable and shaft. Many 84 had engine problems so was replace under warranty/recall but have no clue just to quick look at the outside.

Well i was more talking about the long block portion. Is the Distributor from the 85 engine able to go onto the 87 block and is the TBI intake able to go to the 87 head. will the 85 main pulley fit the 87 engine if i swap front timing covers.

87+ won't take old parts. Head and block are way different.
Only the exhaust manifold and maybe a few others like WP can use all Fiero l4.
