Hello,

I've been having charging issues on my 88 GT Fiero. I have decided to replace the alternator and clean up/ replace the wiring. I believe the wiring has been mucked around with by previous owner(s). I have gotten a Powermaster CS 130 Amp alternator. The paperwork for it (attached) is calling for 6 gauge wire to be used. I am planning to connect the alternator (side post) to the junction box using 6 gauge wire, and then run a wire from the side post of the alternator to the S pin for the CS plug. I am not planning to connect any other wires to the alternator. I am also going to replace the wire from the junction block to the positive terminal on the battery with 6 gauge wire as well.

So I should use a 10 gauge fusible link on the alternator cable right before the junction block? (There is no fusible link currently on my car at this spot, though one is shown in the diagram attached)

Will the junction block have any trouble handling the thicker gauge wire being attached?

A missing fusable link is dangerous for the whole car. The stock setup looked like this pic, which is from the Ogre's Cave. Go there to find much more information about alternators.

Thanks for your reply Gall757.

I took the electrical wiring out of a parts Fiero the other day (87? GT) that still seemed to have the original wiring for the junction block.

Does anybody know what gauge the stock fusible link is on the cable between the alternator and the junction block?
IIRC there was a "2" marked on this link from the parts Fiero.

I do not see Link F in the image you posted? (I think mine has a 20, but the connector is smaller...)
Is there a link built into this connector?

I believe Links A and B had "16" written on them.

(I was unable to find anything about fusible link sizes in Ogre's Cave.

You don't? Look at the ECM connector.

I believe the Fiero fusable links are 16 ga.

Link F is not in the picture you provided.

Oh, OK. The actual splice on the wire that says 'Link F' is not visible in the photo.

Fusible Link F Is In the "link map" pic above and as labeled.

The above black "thing" is Not a Fusible Link. That is just a Splice for a Link w/ heavy black plastic molded over that. I think Actual link is wire to the left w/ "rubber" insulation.

Some cars like the "link map" pic has the link wire going from + box to disconnect w/o extra normal wire and a splice.
That pic is from 87 L4 Fiero. Likely 88 L4 is same.

Links are labeled on them but printing can "wear out/off."
