Passenger side steering slop on an 88 base model.
What am I looking at here? Is the tie rod, bushing or something else bad that is causing the slop shown in the video?

Looks to me like maybe your steering rack has come apart? What's the other side look like?

The other side is fine.
I took my car to get it aligned today and the shop said I had a bad passenger tie rod. I am no familiar enough with the 88 steering rack to tell exactly what is wrong here.

I would recommend changing the bushing as Patrick mentioned, that is the up/down movement of the rack in the video. The inner tie rod also needs to be replaced, that is the in/out movement in the video.

I guess I will just replace both. The extra $40 is not going to break the bank.
Thanks guys.

As stated, its the steering rack bushing. Simple job. Just time consuming.

I agree. The inner tie rod and the rack bushing are both fried.
Best of luck with the repairs.

Sure looks like you recommended the right fix. The rack is moving within the housing. The OEM bushing is plastic, worn and needs replacement.
