Manual R/H mirror ball joint tensioner (Page 1/1)

My manual R/H mirror finally went from loose to dangling. After removing the pivot assembly from the housing and successfully removing the glass without breaking it, I see this little plastic or fiberboard plate that tensions the ball has split. I'm guessing I should drill out the rivets and replace it with something, but after reading every forum result and every parts search on mirrors, all I can find is new glass, or a whole new housing and assembly. Suggestions on this?

You sure it isn't sheet metal? Looks like a simple stamped metal part. Maybe spring steel stamped then heat treated.

When you drill out the rivets, make sure that won't spin. Spinning can easily wreck the plastic even if doesn't touch directly.

Might use other things to replace it but may not last long. So likely don't want to make it hard to fix again.

Think this part is same part use in other cars w/ same shape glass even tho mirror shells are a bit different.
