Temperature gauge not working (Page 1/1)
LakeLako NOV 03, 12:37 PM
Hey all,

Forgive me if I am not exactly posting this in the normal way/traditions of this site, but I am incredibly new.

I just bought myself an 86 GT with 20,000 miles, and it's fantastic. However, the temperature gauge on the Fiero seems to be not quite dead, but awfully close. After driving it all day, the gauge hadn't seemed to move at all. It will flex a little when I first start the car, but that seems to be it. Has anyone else found this problem? I know of the pegging out issue the temperature gauges had, but this isn't that. As far as I can tell, it's a bad Temperature Gauge Sending Unit, but I really have no clue.

any help would be appreciated, as would any pointers for using this site better, should I have made an error with this post. Thanks in advance,

Gauge, sender and wiring for them can be "bad..."
Even if they are "good," the gauge can lie and numbers mean nothing because of ground problems anywhere in the car etc making gauge problems.
Oil Pressure and Volts gauges can do same too.

Example: I've replace OP gauge and upgraded Oil Sensor and gauge is still reads high because of wire issues somewhere not easy to test/find.

Note that Temp sensors can read high/low if you have coolant problems... Dash Gauge sender isn't only one there.

I agree with what Ogre said, but I'd check to make sure you have a thermostat. I had the exact same problem, but it just turned out the person who owned it before me removed the thermostat and never put it back in
