Turbo LNF Ecotec Fiero Swap - A labor of love. (Page 1/1)
DimeMachine NOV 07, 07:12 AM
I met the owner of this LFN Fiero recently after he contacted me about a Fiero part I had for sale. We got to talking "Fieros" and shared a little with each other about our cars. Once I learned he had a LNF swap - and I saw that the car was nicely done, I had to make a Video about him and his car.

Normally my videos are just about the car.. but Dave is such an interesting fellow - so the story is also about him. After a successful career in the automotive industry- including placing 2nd twice in the highly competitive Hot Rod Magazine - Engine Masters Challange, Dave is in semi-retirement but finds time regularly to continue to build and modify his Turbo LNF Fiero.

Dave's ultimate goal for this car may surprise you. It is not drag racing, road racing or car shows. It is something many of us have thought about but will likely never do. Take a look.

That's a heck of a clean install and he seems to be running an automatic transmission but AFAIK the Megasquirt doesn't have the capability to shift them. He references using a separate shift controller w a paddle shift switch perhaps with the Ecotech 5T60 automatic? Loads of engineering time in this swap.

Megashift should be able to control it. This link specifies a 4-speed but mentions up to 8 forward gears are controllable.

It’s just a matter of turning solenoids on and off and could “theoretically” be done a bit crude if inclined.

Thanks for the comment Dennis. It is a stand alone trans controller - seems to work quite well according to Dave!

I look forward to following his progress next summer!

I like MegaSquirt or other aftermarket computers; it makes the engine swap about swapping the engine hardware (i.e. crank, rods, pistons, block, heads; the fun parts), and not about making the factory computer work in a non-native environment.

Archie sold hatchback kits at some point to close the rear of the Fiero fastback. Could be handy if Dave could get his hands on one such kit.

That should work too! I like the home-made one on the toolbox the BEST.....

I read the manual and that trans controller works because the PWM signal needed by various different shift solenoids can be selected and adjusted.
