Clutch pushrod question... (Page 1/1) |

Am replacing the clutch slave in my '86 GT. While removing the old broken one, I noticed that the pushrod had been whittled out of square key stock. As such, I'm not confident that it's the correct length. I will probably end up making an adjustable pushrod, but I would like a ballpark to start with. Anybody know how long the factory pushrod was supposed to be?

The '86 GT had both 4 and 5 speed transmissions. If you have a 5 speed, the push rod is like this:

Uneven wear or breaking of the push rod maybe sign the pedal arm is bent/twisted. OE pedal is "weak" and easier to bend/twist for any problems on trans end or the clutch itself.

The 4-speed slave pushrod is 5 5/8 inches long.
The new slave didn't come with a pushrod? If you have to make a replacement, be sure it's a properly hardened rod, else it will bend under use and fall of the clutch release arm.
