Cat Delete (Page 1/2)

If I were to buy a cat delete pipe from fierostore, would that just bolt in or do I need to do welding at all? I have absolutely no idea about exhaust work.
Thank you!

I believe that pipe will bolt right in. You just cut the pipe at the exhaust side of the cat and bolt the straight pipe in with a clamp on the exhaust side. You car will run really better without it, higher performance, improved gas mileage (city an highway) and the fire hazard will be eliminated, off course all for "off road " use only.

In general, a U-clamp can work, but it is cheap. I used to have a U-clamp on the exhaust of my previous Fiero, and the joint ended up slipping apart. With a new U-clamp, I was back in business.

Welding is going to be more secure, with less likelihood of leaks.

Would I have to drop the rest of the exhaust system to weld it?

I like to use 3 bolt flanges and make it so i can drop in and out... for race days?.? and off highway use?../? and to make sure its there for inspections.... and to take it inside at night because it gets cold at night and people like to steal cats.

I have found an acceptable compromise to be a flat stainless strap clamp. (Band clamp?)
If you slot the end of the "delete pipe" in a few places, the strap will help to compress the end of the pipe over the rest of the system. It will seal better than a U-clamp, but everything is still removable, if necessary.
It can also be removed, and the pipes can be welded later on, if deemed necessary, without really skipping a beat.

Just remember... Federal law does prohibit removal of the cat.

If you must remove it, why not put in a universal high- flow cat instead? They're cheap, stop the bad smell, help the environment and won't hurt performance.

Your car won't run better without a CAT. It also won't be faster.. If it is a stock Fiero, it will be a slug compared to modern cars, with our without a CAT... My wife's minivan is faster than any stock Fiero ever was... and that's with 3 teenagers and a dog in the car, and full of groceries. Fieros are slow cars by today's standards... Choking the drivers behind you won't make it fast.

A clogged CAT hurts performance, and can be cheaply replaced. The person sitting behind you in traffic will appreciate not having to choke on fumes

When I rebuilt the whole car I deleted the cat and did the ocelot exhaust, must say the car sounds great. Additionally it does not smell at all.
