Maybe I got in a little over my head. (Page 1/1)

I bit the bullet and got myself a 3800 super. Supposedly it ran when they pulled it, but after they pulled it, THEY LEFT IT IN A MUD PUDDLE.

The layer of dirt and oil and grime on this thing is insane. Its all surface it seems, some scrubbing with a wire brush and some degreaser got my valve covers all shiny again but.. there's a bigger problem here:

Rain water got into this thing while it was sitting and everything from valves to pistons are covered in milkshake. Hell, I took the heads off today and there was standing water in cylinder 2. All my intake runners are gummed up, my intake manifold is disgusting. Only silver lining here is that the supercharger looks flawless.

I assume im gonna need to take this to a machine shop but I dont even know what to ask them to do. Can a machine shop deep clean this stuff for me?

Normally, water and oil only turn to milkshake if the engine is ran with the mix. WIthout running, the water just settles to the bottom and the oil rises to the top w/o mixing.

I would say that engine has a head gasket or other issue. Time to tear it all down, replace all the bearings and see what else isn't quite right.

Thats so weird. I broke it down today and the head gaskets looked surprisingly good.. doesn't matter now. What all do I have in store for me then? What needs to be replaced / sent off to be replaced?

The first step should be find the source of the mixing oil & water. Could be as simple as a gasket, could be cracked head or block.

I'm hoping that since it was a junkyard motor, its only a gasket. I'll take the block to a shop and get it heat tested for cracks.

I'm looking for the logic in that statement.... I suspect you will be money ahead if you find another 3800. This one definitely ran with the oil/water mix.
