what have people used to press out the old bearing, and press in the new bearing? also do you press it out from the inside of the case? outside? or it doesn't matter?

If it's not damaged, you can probably clamp a shaft collar onto it and pull it out with a slide hammer.

I doubt a hammer will do the trick. I am going to use a press Anybody done this mod, or has anybody removed the seal/bearing from the input shaft? which direction does it come out?

A slide hammer is not a hammer.
The bearing will press out of the case in either direction. Are you splitting the case?

judging from removing the bearing with a press, a slide hammer would not be likely to work had to apply a lot of pressure before it popped, the new one went in like butter
while I am a cheap SOB, using the right tool for the job in the long run is less painfull, and always quicker while it cost 50 bucks to "rent" it was nice to know the job would get done correctly just a tip, removing the detent cover was a royal pain, and the most difficult part of the job so far IMO, the reason it was difficult to remove was I was doing it in an unheated garage while it was about 40 degrees F applying heat to it with a hair drier, it finally popped
The press was in a heated room, and I brought the housing in to warm up before attempting removal it was also much more pleasant working in a room that was 30 degrees warmer
