Chimes of Christmas? (Page 1/1)
John W. Tilford DEC 16, 11:08 AM
Since a local shop did some work on the 88 GT (with 3.4 [Firebird 1995 for people who didn't get a V-8] with 4T60 trans) a few weeks ago little chimes kick in for seemingly no reason while I'm driving. Seem to settle down after a few miles. No dash light, engine running fine, gauges all show normal, doors shut, parking brake off and light off, but "chime!" Then a couple minutes later "chime, chime!"

Bad ground somewhere? Buy another "courtesy module" and see if that fixes it? Ear plugs? But then I couldn't hear the siren on the "Take him to the Happy Home, now!" van.

Thank you for any ideas.

what kind of work did they do??? your description is kinda vague as to where the sound is. If i heard bells ringing inside of my car I would be worried. If they did exhaust work perhaps they did not put the springs back? springs bouncing off the pipes could cause a sound like that.

Without more info thats my first guess

Sounds just like the "key's still in" or "lights still on" warnings.

Well.. its been wet here my ajar light always comes on for the hood when it gets wet. Maybe your door switches are a bit corroded? I can't remember if its the jamb switch or strike switch that triggers the door chime. But you should be seeing an ajar light or brake light on the dash for those... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That hood latched switch is an idea. (I didn't know there was such a switch. Always had my Fieros' hoods latched when driving.) I'll look at that one, the rear "engine/trunk" latched switch, and each door.

The blue dingy thingy is something many (most?) of us removed years ago.

Random sounds = likely Chime unit or some line to it has problems.
See my Cave, Chime Unit

Many "delete" them then have battery dead from leaving HL on, brake problems leaving park brake on, left keys in and lock out, etc.
Key alarm feature is easy to disable by turning Dash Dimmer down when working/cleaning.

Many leave HL motor disable for winter or problems and easy to leave light on after driving in crap weather.

In almost 50 years of driving, I have never left my headlights on. If I'm unable to notice that my headlights are on when I park at night, it's time to hang up my keys.
