Plate Speaker Repair/Refoaming (Page 1/1)

I have a spare set of Boston Acoustic plate speakers that have been in storage for a number of years. I recently brought them out of my storage area to install them in my project car, but noticed some foam deterioration/breaks in the "new" speakers. Has anyone come across repair kits or service facilities that might handle this type of a speaker. I really like the sound from the BA speakers and would like to get them into service if possible. Does anyone have suggested sources for kits and/or repair services for 4 x 6 plate speakers?

It's easy to find the round ones, but a quick search doesn't yield much for oblong.
Here's one link to replacement foam. I got a refoam kit from Simply Speakers for some Baby Advents. You clean of the old stuff (messy), wipe the old glue with alcohol to prep for the new foam and glue.

There are videos of course showing how it's done.

That’s what I do for a living. Recone and refoam speakers.
Although refoaming is pretty easy you have to cut the dust cap off and shim the voice coil to keep it centered. If you have any questions call me at Loudspeakers Plus.

Where do you cut the dust cap, and do you replace it?
What's your shim material of choice?

in the past I had a professional do it, but I notice they are no longer at their location and I can't find them, and the only people in town are expensive, so expect for me to use your services as soon as I get my Fiero back together which is hopefully in the next coupe of days. I have a couple of Advent with 4 woofers needing repair.

I think it was your company that restored the woofers in some speakers I have.
Excellent work!

I cut the dual cap as close to the cone as possible and replace it with a new one. The shim stock size varies, I use plastic Mylar sheets and find the best fit...tight but not to tight...then glue away !
