Introduction (Page 1/1)

Hello all,

My name is Geoff and I picked up a pair of Fieros this summer to build with my son.

He's six so there is plenty of time to bring them back to life.

What we have:
1986 Fiero GT 2.8L V6 / 4spd Muncie --> Donor car, since the engine cradle literally fell out to of it. Rotted the mounts right off the body.
1987 Fiero 2.5L L4 / 5spd Getrag --> Likely the one to save

Both cars are basically complete so I should have enough parts to make one functioning car.

I've pulled the engine cradle from the GT and plan to tear it down to assess engine and transmission condition and go from there. Neither will start, but I figure it's likely electrical issues.

I'll keep posting to this thread as things move along.

I've also got a 1979 Trans Am that's basically finished. I'm building a fresh 468 Pontiac for it, but it runs and drives with an Oldsmobile 350/4spd Muncie combination now.

Thanks for such a great forum for our new project!

Welcome! Unless someone swapped a Getrag into it, the 4 cylinder cars with 5 speeds have an Isuzu transmission, you'll want to keep the Muncie 4 speed if you put the V6 in the 87.

Welcome to the obsession! I have an 88 GT painted the 87 only blue like yours. Nice hobby to get into with a son.

Thanks for the info, I'm still learning the ins and outs of Fieros. Any information and corrections are appreciated.

Welcome to our obsession! Good luck with your project.
(The Isuzu trans will work with the 2.8, it'll just be a bit fragile, if you beat on it. Second gear is what usually shreds, first.
If you decide to use it, use a V6 5 speed clutch, with the Isuzu release bearing. If you don't shock load it, it will last longer.)

That's a gorgeous Trans Am. (468?! I'm sure you're not going to beat on that, either. )
