Blower motor not working (Page 1/2)
pontiacfierokid1985 JAN 18, 01:29 AM
Ok so here is my problem the blower motor was working fine today. I went to go drop my son off all the sudden leaving the blower motor wasn’t working. Came home looked things over broke the test light out and started probing things. I’m getting no power from the purple wire on the blower motor connector. I’m seeing power from the relay. Here is a random question does this all ground and complete the circuit through the decklid ground cause that doesn’t even work as well now

How does the blower motor up front have anything to do with the decklid in the back?

I'm guessing you are talking about the blower motor in the trunk that provides air to the coil. If it is the ground wire is attached not inside the trunk but on the outside accessible by removing the rear right tire and up into the wheel well.

If its the engine cooling blower in the rear that only goes on under certain conditions. If you turn the A/C on it should go on.
If it is the heater/AC blower in the front, to test apply 12V directly to the blower to see it it works.

No talking about the blower motor in the front of the car. The deck lid wiring is all frayed up so I was wondering if gm grounded the circuit through that someone how since gm usually ties their grounds all into location somewhat

With the way it was described. I would never have thought of the trunk blower. The OP must have a trunk blower sixth sense.

Ok- I am going to be a smart-aleck here for a second; Quote from pontiacfierokid1985, "all the sudden leaving the blower motor " Leaves are dangerous around the ventilation blower resistor pack!

The ground for the Heater Blower fan is a black wire that runs through the Bulkhead connector C100 (Cavity A4) and then to Ground G201 located (Supposedly) somewhere under the dash.

Only reason I thought it was the trunk blower is because the ground wire to that one is not easily seen and not obvious where it is attached. That and engine temp was never mentioned.

I have removed that motor two times in my '85. First time it was squeaking so I lubed the bearing with ATF. Then it started squeaking again and turned out the case shattered so it was angle grinding the bearing. Yes, it does have a ground from a separate wire, does not ground through the chassis. But if you tested for +12V at the purple cable and got nothing it can only mean a few things:

1. Fuse.
2. Wire broke.
3. Button or circuit board on the vent panel broke.

Do you have power at the fuse box on that particular fuse?

Replace heater fuse. Fuses can fail w/o blowing that's very obvious to see.

Test PPL power wire to ground to frame anywhere.
Test at all speeds. Note: AC Off Button Pushed in and stays in is only time Power is Off to blower.
No power:
At all then check for power at fuse (even w/ new fuse) and switch.
Any Lower speeds check resistor pack.
High speed check relay in front near blower.

Blower and other front Ground wire goes thru C100 to G201 & G202 in the cabin. Iffy ground wire will be a problem.
HL Motor, HL and other Bulbs, and Rad Fad have own ground to frame near HL lifts. Likely they need cleaning/fixing too then brake/silicone grease to protect the ends.

AC control head can break and buttons won't work right or not at all depending exact fail point. Again Off button is only way to turn off blower but iffy board or button(s) can do off things shouldn't be off.
