3800sc swap harness removal question (Page 1/1)

This might be a really stupid question, but I recently purchased a stretched '86 Fiero chassis with a 3800sc out of a '99 gtp already mounted into it. The previous owner didn't do any work on the wiring harness before mounting it into the car. Is it possible to remove the 3800sc harness with the motor still mounted in the fiero or will i have to pull the motor to remove all of the plugs? There seem to be some connecters that are out of reach towards the bottom of the engine. Thanks in advance for the help.

Did the previous owner start making connections between the 3800 harness and the fiero harness?

No, the 3800sc harness untouched still connected to the engine, pcm, and fuse box straight out of the gtp. The fiero harness is also still in the car taking up even more room in the engine compartment. No connections have been made between the two. I am planning on sending the harness to another member to be rebuilt im just having trouble getting it all disconnected with the 3800sc and auto trans mounted in the fiero.

When extracting the c500 and c203 connectors from the fiero harness do you just remove the whole lot of wires passing through the firewall.

Here are some pictures of the cluster in my engine compartment and the POS that I'm working on restoring.

You do not have to remove the engine to disconnect the wiring harnesses. What you have there is a once expensive Lambo kit car. Those bodies on a stretched frame were about $12K-$15K 20 years back. Add in the 3800SC powertrain and someone put a lot of money in that car. It should be well worth the restoration work .
