Foam rear of doors and behind sail panels (Page 1/1)
Indy-453 JAN 25, 12:13 AM
Hello all,

Does any one know of where to source, or how to make, replacement foam pads that sit under the sail panels? This is an 84 car if that helps. My foam is now crunchy and does not provide any cushioning to the sail panels.

Right in the middle of the picture.

Thanks

You can cut to fit any type of sticky foam. Not sure anyone makes a specific just for that spot.

It would probably be best to use a closed cell foam for that area to prevent water absorption and retention. Closed cell would also retain the adhesive surface for a better and longer bond.

I figured it was worth a follow up post.

Ended up using window sealer foam from home depot.

Carefully tore off the old pieces, cleaned everything up with rubbing alcohol, and then marked the area that needed to be covered.

Finished product. Will it last long term? No idea. The old stuff lasted 37 years, so it should be ok.

That "Seal" is likely part of cabin fresh air flow for GT.
Likely hardly to never see sunlight so no UV to "Rot" it but can get Ozone etc that can "eat it" over time.

GT have some minor changes at sail panel vs notch tails so you "seal" may actually restrict/block air there. If seal fails not what should happen. Maybe more noise and/or more or less fresh air w/ windows and sunroof shut. Read an owners book. Shows Notch car but give general idea.

"Force" Fresh air helps keep driver awake. More so w/ small Fiero cabin when CO2 and others chemicals get high levels even w/o people smoking etc.

I believe the Hole doesn't actually part of fresh air but The "grill hole" is.
