4T60 swap (Page 1/1)
TXGOOD JAN 29, 11:09 AM
I`m going to be installing my 4T60 trans in my 88 in a few weeks and I need to know exactly what I need.
I have researched and believe I have found the axles to use.
It`s mainly the mounts.
I have read on a few different places about using parts off of the stock TH125 and parts of the 4T60 and even
seen a picture of mounts that you can use that say "I don`t know what these are off of but there was some in a big pile of brackets"
If possible I would like to know what car and year to get them from.
I have also seen on 88 cradles some people have notched the frame in one place and some just drill a hole and put a long bolt in.
I do have the right speed sensor that supposedly the wiring from the Fiero is suppose to plug right in.
Thanks for any help.

Here's what I did when I swapped a 4T60 in my Indy.

The 4T60 swap is not terribly difficult and the steps outlined here on this forum will tell the story, I believe the only item that they fail to address is the wiring for the TCC clutch and what version to use to drive the speedometer.

TXGOOD,

When I did my 4T60 swap I found the work to be quite easy. The hardest part was locating the proper VSS pickup that matches the Fiero. But after a couple of visits to the local Pull-a-Part I was able to locate the correct VSS sensor.

Good luck with your swap.

Thanks guys.
Cajun, I think I have the right VSS sensor.
I got it off of a Deville.
I got lucky, first car I looked at in the yard.

I wish you better luck than me.
What should have been an easy swap has turned into a real problem. First it was the Axels. The only place that I found for the correct axles was at Auto Zone part numbers are: Left side 8471N Right side 8430N. Other part stores will give you the axles with 27 splines and you need axles with 33 splines to do the job. The part numbers from the old instructions that you will find seem to be the 27 spline ones. It seems the part numbers have changed over the years.

Then I could never find the governor cap as most 1980 cars were scrapped in the cash for clunker run they did years ago. Only option I found was to go with a Digital Dakota converter box. This managed to get the speedometer working but not the cruise control.
That is only the tip of my iceberg the car is still not shifting right making it unusable. I am really tired of chasing my tail on this one. But living in SW Virginia it has not been possible to find anyone willing to straighten out the problems. Local shops don’t want anything to do with it because it is a swap. So for now I have just put this aside waiting for warmer weather to attack it again.
