Torn CV Boot (Page 1/1)
Markeeise MAR 15, 12:29 PM
My passenger side outer CV boot is torn because when I was heating the bleeder valve for the breaks with a torch to get It off, I burnt a hole in the cv boot. they are OEM axles with 220,000 miles on them, should I just replace the boot, or the axle, are any of the replacement axels any good? I heard just replacing the outer boot is hard but willing to do to keep my original axels, especially if all the replacement axels are no good.

At that mileage I would just replace the axle. You should be able to pull and replace that axle in under two hours time. If you know how you can do the job without even removing the strut.

Because Fiero doesn't work the CV's like FWD... Maybe still be good even that old and very high miles.
Split boots are harder then most think, don't clean right and glue fails, often very soon.
Solid boots are better but need about same work to install as replacing axle.

Important: If you replace the axle, Do Not give the store your old one until you know "new" one is good and runs at least a few miles. Drive a Week or more is better before you return a core.

To compare axle length etc, Compress so inner join is at max short then look at both side by side.
THIS is how all axle length spec are written, axle in compression.
Why? Many replacement are too short or long and will cause big problems.
Part No on box maybe connect but actual parts are often wrong. Some minor changes maybe ok but wheel end spines aren't same distance from trans end is a major problem and if used the axle can self-destruct.
