What do I use? (Page 1/1)

Hello All,

I'm in the process of changing the color of my interior to black. I'd like to upholster the top half of the door panel vs. paint.

I'll be using a black leather like vinyl but I'd like to fill in the seam on the door panel. It would make this job a bit easier.

Any suggestions?

Foam, maybe? Do you have a junk door card you can practice on?

I don't have one to practice . But while at the upholstery shop , I spoke to the owner and he suggested using 1/4 form and cover all the door panel with it.
My plan was to upholster directly over the original door panel.

Maybe glue in a wooden dowel to support the foam & keep it from sinking in.
Might need to grind the outer surface flat... (at least that would be ideal if you can find the right size dowel).

Agree, not a bad idea.

After taking a closer look at the door panels.. There were only a few areas that needed attention. I was able to fix them with super glue and baking soda. I ended up painting them black with duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint. So far I am very impressed with the outcome.

I'm curious about this. What exactly did you do?
