| water pump bolt replacement- what sizes/locations for all bolts? (Page 1/1) |

Hi all, I'm new here and what a great website.
My son picked up an 85 GT 2.8- 6 cylinder at auction- blown head gasket and who knows what else. Pulled heads off and got them checked and they shaved 8 thousands off, they said no cracks and tight water jacket and is good to go, all good. Now water pump replacement I want to replace all bolts. does anyone know the sizes of all 12 bolts and a diagram of their locations as (I cant believe whoever owned this car attempted to replace pump actually used a sheet metal screw gooped up with silicone in one bolt hole).

Be patient; no one has that information at their fingertips.
Does the engine already have a water pump on it? Can you take the bolts to the store and get new ones of the same length and thread pitch? They're Metric, which you probably already know.
Take detailed notes were each bolt came from. For the one with the sheet metal screw you might have to try some of the other ones to see which size it needs to be.

That's a great image, never seen it before.
Before anyone asks... #4 bolt is the only one which which protrudes into the water jacket, and therefore is the only water pump bolt which requires sealant.
And possibly most important of all, use the clamp to hold the timing chain cover in place before the water pump bolts are loosened/removed.

Didn't know he sold a kit but it's years ago when I changed mine, I just went to the local hardware store and bought bolts to replace my torx. It was simple. I think there are just 4 different ones. Takes like 15 min max.
