Okay, I have an 86 SE, 2.8 V6 with a 3-speed auto both with 109k (were rebuilt somewhere around 80k) and the engine is making a click/bang sound. i have no idea what it is. it is a slow pop from idle to 3250 (wants to die in that rpm range) and a fast pop/straight piped honda sound from 3250 to 6000. i changed the cylinders 1, 3, 5 spark plugs, but cant get to the other three. also the cats are deleted and it has never made that sound in its deleted lifetime. i will post a video in the morning for the click sound, but i thought it was a misfire at first but im getting worried my engine is on the way out the door. if anyone knows what it is, please help!
Thanks for your help,
Nolan

If you can't "get to the other three", find someone who can. Checking/replacing spark plugs is about as basic as engine maintenance goes.

You can take off the decklid for better access, its like 4 bolts so its not hard.

I'll second that motion for removing the decklid. The 5 minutes you will spend doing that create So Much clearance for medium and large hands to get at the plugs. Chances are your 2,4,6 plugs haven't been changed in a long time. On one of my Fieros that meant the spark plugs were rusted solid and it took a couple of days applying rust buster and tapping the plugs free them up. Many people have noted that slightly tightening stuck plugs and bolts helps to break the rust.

I was told of a 120k spark plug that took many days to get loose. Was installed at the factory. Then he handed me the spark plug and said take it as a good luck charm.

Another reason to remove the decklid is it will make it easier for you to examine the firewall side exhaust manifold. A leaking manifold can sometines produce a clicking/ticking sound. [This message has been edited by eelecurb (edited 03-26-2021).]

well the first 3 i changed in an autozone parking lot. they broke free easily. got NGK's instead of ACDelco now. the back 3 im taking it to the mechanic for. now we just have to deal with the knock/click sound (if new plugs in back doesnt get rid of it.) any more ideas as to what that clicking is? could it be misfire?

Did you gap the plugs? Did you make sure they were the same length?
Also have heard stories of tips breaking off of spark plugs and causing a tapping knocking sound... But you know old mechanic tails .
