tire sizes (Page 1/2)

I was looking at replacing my tires but I'm not finding any at all in my size 215/60/R14 that are cheap. Is there a more common size I can substitute that tire size for?

205/60-15 is next optional size but need new rims.
Even "cheap" alloy wheels can be allot.

optional sizes listed @ tirerack or in computers at tire stores get you sizes to closely match OE Tires.
many stores have data to match OE rims to new 15 rims. Think 15" need 6.5" width to properly 205.

Tire prices went up across all sizes then add higher cost/fees to mount, dispose old tires, sales and other taxes, etc. in most markets.

Tire rack is a good place to search; They have two tires that are the correct size (215/60-14); The BFG Radial T/A @ $158 or the Riken Raptor HR @ $87.....I would take the Raptors.. they rate higher in reviews and are both cheaper and lighter (Better performance and ride).

If you find the right tire on TireRack, then go to your local tire store and ASK them if they can get the tire via a special order (Usually they can (Now) match Tirerack's price)....Also, if not then you can have Tirerack ship the tires to your local tire store for installation- you do still have to pay for installation.

Been buying from Tirerack for years....Recently asked my local tire guy (Big-O) if they could "Come close" to Tirerack's price- yes, they had become competitive with Tirerack....So I gave Big-O my business (Local is always better)

195/70R14 is a stock tire size and still quite common. Better ride, steering and MPG but a little more squirrely.

Two years ago I found 4 new B.F. Goodrich tires on clearance for $35 each. I spent more per tire on my bicycle!

just reread top...
What size tire?

215/60/R14 is likely never made by many makers.

215/60/R15 is GT Rear and should be easy to find Years ago but harder now.
Example: TR list only 1 maker and never heard of "RIKEN."

I have found some good deals on the 195/70R14 tire size. Would there be any adverse effects to put this size all the way around? Centervilledon

That size (195/70-14) is very similar to the 215/60-14 that you had stock. It is slightly bigger in diameter (24.7 vs 24.1) but that would make your speedo closer to "dead-on".....Width goes down from the 215 (8.5) to the 195 (7.7).

The steering would be a bit lighter- probably any 195 width tire you can buy now (Short of studded snow tires) would stick better than the old 215 tires....

Thanks guys for the advice. Centervilledon

195/70-14 needs 14x6 rims.
A bit wide or narrow rims is "ok" but if has 215/60/R14 then likely 1" or more wider rim and isn't good w/ 195/70-14.

Width is measure inside of flange where rubber bead hits.
Aftermarket rims usually have size and width "stamped" on backside. GM OEM rims may have that info or not or just every hard to see.

The Fiero Hi-Tech 14" wheels are 6" wide...That is what my 1985 SE Fiero w/WS6 suspension had.
