Whining fuel pump. (Page 1/1)

2.8 I just purchased two weeks ago just started dying, while making a lot of whining noise from the center console. Starting it whirs fine and pressurizes the system, but as soon as it's running, whine noise, stumble and dies. I assume I'm replacing the pump?

I assume there's plenty of gas in the tank? Don't laugh, you'd be surprised how often here that turns out to be the issue.

What's the fuel pressure when it "stumbles and dies"?

When I attached the gauge on the fuel rail it was spraying fuel everywhere and it had been sitting for hours at that point so there was pressure there. By the time I got the gauge on it read 10 PSI. One click of the key and it shot up to 45 PSI and stayed there until I started it.

Should have 3/4 tank. Guage seems legit since I've filled up twice now. I'll get pressure readings here.

Ok. It sat for a few hours, cooled down started and ran like nothing happened. No whine, no nothing.

Then added 3 gallons of gas guage went up just over quarter tank. Seems about right. The guage is working fine.

So before this episode I drove it 10 miles then ran it at idle for 30 minutes while adding A/C refrigerant (A/C is boned. Leaking compressor oil everywhere). After 30 minutes. That's when the whining started. Coupled with stumbling and dying.
