Oil Pressure Issues (Page 1/1)

Hello again everyone

I posted here a long while back about my 86 Fiero GT (2.8L V6) with a fuel pump not priming and the possibility that it was my oil pressure sending unit causing the issue. Well, turns out that may not have been the issue, and as of now, I'm not entirely sure what is. I replaced that oil pressure sending unit with the 88 Fiero's unit and made sure my wires right. When I turned the key one notch, the Check Engine light came on and the oil gauge was flatlined, absolutely nothing. So I got out my pressure tester and took out the oil pressure sending unit to which I got nothing, and even tried leaving that hole entirely open to see if it at least gushed oil and there was a whole lot of nothing. It won't start, but it will crank. I did do an oil change on it (honest to god have no idea when its last oil change was) since I was replacing the oil filter so it's got good oil in it (5W 30). I figured it would be wise to ask the professionals here their opinions before I go tearing into my car to fetch the oil pump. The only step I have not done yet is to get a OBD1 read of the error code.

Sender wiring, See my Cave, Oil Sensor

Oil Pump is tied to the dist for V6.
Pull off the dist cap and see if rotor moves.
My guess isn't and likely dist gear is "bad."

Don't you need to be cranking the engine to get an oil pressure reading? Not just key on? Also if it cranks then it sees oil pressure. Or at least the sender....or am I missing something?
