Fusible link wires on solenoid (Page 1/1)

I recently reinstalled my cradle on my '84 duke and I am not getting any power from the starter/solenoid onwards. I am getting a constant 12 V from the battery to the starter and if I remove the fusible link wires from the solenoid and hook them up directly to the battery I get power to the lights, dash etc so I know it's not the fusible links. The other day I removed the starter and had it checked. My mechanic did a bench test and says it works fine. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

Very odd, since the fusible link wires connect to the same post as the Positive Cable from the battery.
The single Purple Wire to the small connector is what energizes the solenoid when starting.

Thanks Fierosound! You gave me just enough to let me figure it out. I remembered that I don't have the stock starter but one from a 11998 grand Prix that has 2 large nuts and the smaller purple one. I moved the fusible wire to the battery cable nut and ran the solenoid wire to the 2nd nut on the starter and it turned over. I had the wires wrong.

Now to get it to start

Double check the spark plug wiring order starting with cylinder #1 at TDC on compression stroke (not exhaust stroke).
Many people seem to get that messed up too and start pulling their hair out.

I double checked the wiring - all good and still it won't start. It did when I tried cranking for no more than a couple of seconds at a time burn up my ignition coil. Any idea why?
