Clunk in front end when going over bumps. 1988 gt (Page 1/1)

I've put up with this since I bought my car 10 years ago. It has a clunk in the frontend when I go over bumps. It isn't loud but it's enough I want to fix it finally.

The suspension is stock and the wheel and tires size are stock albeit with new tires and front shocks. Steering is tight and there isn't any noise when running the steering back and forth at low or high speeds. All the parts under the Front bonnet are cinched down. Spare tire and jack and so forth so it isn't coming from there..

I don't want to try and reinvent the wheel here. I am asking advice of you all that are much more experienced with these little cars. What should I be looking at first verses just replacing parts here and there in order to hopefully fix it.

What would you look into first?

Based on what you've reported, I'd inspect sway bar end links and ball joints first.

You should check every pivot point for excessive movement.
Upper/lower ball joints, upper/lower & sway bar bushings, sway bar end bushings, inner/outer tie rods, passenger side rack bushing, etc.

I had a nut that worked loose on my upper control arm cross shaft.

Had that as well. I thought it was coming from the infamous rack bushing so ended up rebuilding the rack. The rack feels amazing but it didn't fix the problem. The clunking problem was a bad ball joint.
