Flywheels (Page 1/2)

I have read through the forum about flywheel replacement. I have been searching for a replacement for my 86se v6 4 speed without much luck. I went to the original GM part store and found the original part number (GM 476575) and it lists a cross ref guide of other cars that used that particular flywheel and began searching for parts based on the other cars since any search for my Fiero comes up with a Fidanza aluminum and from what I read, they SUCK!

So I guess my question would be, what has anyone else bought as a replacement? I found a Sachs NFW 1006 that says it fits an 86 Cavalier (which is on the list from GM). but I am not well versed in this kind of thing so finding what I actually need is getting frustrating? The searching for other cars on the GM ref list is definitely going better than searching Fiero, but am I even in the right ball park?
Any help is much appreciated.

OK, yet one more "stupid" question.... can a neutral balance flywheel be balanced ? and if it can, is it advisable/a good idea?

Fidanza flywheels "SUCK" due to aluminum creep, but fieroguru offered up a viable solution which I presented Here.

SamanthaM, I have 3 externally balanced flywheels, all in good condition.

How much and how good of condition? Mine has been resurfaced before and cannot be done again because it will be too thin?

Someone messaged me that West Coast Fiero can make one specifically for my car? Has anyone had that done? Were you happy with it? Did it work well?

I did contact them and they said $300 to make me one.

Thank you Patrick.....in the "many" posts read on here, I'm not sure how I missed that one. I will pass this info along to my tranny guy as an alternative. Right now my Fiero sits on a rack waiting to be put back together..... :-( The tranny is rebuilt and assembled, just can't put it back in the car until I replace the flywheel and clutch

I have at least one that has no wear whatsoever. It currently has a little surface rust that will polish off. It hasn't been cut. I removed it from a 3.1 engine that only had about 500 miles on it. It was the wrong flywheel that the owner had purchased. The 3.1 is an internally balanced engine and he was getting vibration from the externally balanced flywheel.

Being resurfaced previously doesn't necessarily prohibit a flywheel from being re-surfaced again. I don't know the information offhand, but I'm sure the specs are available somewhere which will state at what thickness a specific flywheel becomes too thin.
