Proper O-Rings for fuel filter (Page 1/2)
Skybax APR 29, 09:05 PM
Does anyone have a source for the correct/proper o-rings for the fuel lines at the fuel filter?

(correct size and proper rubber for gasoline)

I'm changing fuel filter on V6 next week and would like to be prepared if needed.

Thank you

Not sure about anyone else, but I just unscrewed the old one and screwed in the new one until it stopped leaking.

Likewise here. Never seen an O-ring at the fuel filter connections.

Hmmm, maybe I have it confused with something else (its been 18 years since I changed one) or I was thinking of the 4cyl.

"Fiero" Fuel filter fitting and others using below ends and similar uses orange-ish color 0-rings.

To Fit Fuel Filters GM GF652 #25171792 GF481, FRAM G3727, and related numbers in other brands.

Can get thru many places as dorman part(s) like 800-013 Fuel Line Viton O-Rings - 2 Each - 5/16 In. and 3/8 In.

If you install those ends w/o O-rings will often leak.
You might get lucky to avoid leaking but often you wreck the end of tube and whatever goes into because you way over torque the "nut" treating as Flare fittings.

When tighten to install...
put 2 "flare wrench" on one end so can squish two together like pliers.
You only tighten enough won't get loose.
I can't find torque for this. Is likely a few In/oz not even 1 ft/lb.
Filter and lines are fixed mounted so the fitting won't move.

Thanks for keeping me sane Orge. In the late 1980's when I was an engine performance specialist for all makes/models working 60 hours a week I would change these GM filters weekly when the 80's cars were new daily drivers, but that was over 30 years ago so its hard to remember it all, plus my current automotive occupation still requires me to learn about all makes/models so my brain doesn't have enough hard-drive space to keep it all, haha.

They have packs of fuel type brown/orange o rings of various sizes at Autozone, likely most other parts store as well.

Yes thanks, I was trying to proactive and have correct size & type on hand beforehand, so when I take it apart I don't have to go chasing parts with it apart, those days are looooong gone.

From my experience most of the O rings on the fuel lines have held up but they are now 30+ years old. I believe that they can be replaced with standard Viton O rings

Follow up question... the original fuel filter "back in the day" was GF481 but when I went to buy one via application it said GF652, is that the same filter with updated part number or different filter?
