| Should an unplugged EGR throw a code? (Page 1/1) |

Just curious - I took apart my EGR solenoid and saw it was rusted tight and would not operate. The car never threw a code 32 like this. Also, I've disconnected the electrical connector and there is no code 32.
Is this normal?

Assuming MIL light works and ECM doesn't have a "Performance/Custom Chip..."
Should pop a code but depending where/how you drive may not show easy or often.
ECM doesn't trip several codes unless meet X error over Y time so driving in city maybe harder to trip then driving anywhere that keeps speed higher then 35mph or more for 10 minutes to half hour.
If ECM command X function, "timer" starts counting, if you stop or slow down and ECM disables/ignores X then counter is reset for next use of X.
24 VSS fail is one like that too. You unplug VSS and error may trip at "random" distance/time miles away w/o ECM reading speed. Plus even then the check engine light often only blinks, not on forever or even a few minutes.
44 lean and 45 rich is often same way.
Even Weather can affect tripping these two because often involves MAT/ACT sensor.

Does the Check Engine Soon light come on with the ignition in the ON position? Might be the bulb has been removed or burned out?

Okay, thanks. Yes, my check engine light operates and I don't believe there to be a performance chip in there.
