Popping noise heard through speakers (Page 1/1)

Each time I step on the brakes I hear a little "pop" noise. The car is completely stock and nothing cut up or modified. Any recommendations or suggestions on what this is or how to diagnose it? ...is this common?

Power supply filter capacitors in the radio are getting old might be it. Does it also do it when the turn signals go on/off or the wipers? Every time there is a change in load on the power in the vehicle there will be some "noise" generated. Electrolytic capacitors lose capacitance as they age. It is what kills many cheap electronic devices as they age. You could try placing a capacitor across the power input to the radio and see if it goes away.

They are polarized so you have to be sure to put it across the power input with + to + and - to -. - is ground in the Fiero.

There is a grounding point on the center console frame near the HVAC controls.

Stick your head down by the gas pedal and look behind the console. You'll see it.

There is also one tucked up in the passenger footwell towards the outside of the car, near the chime box.

Make sure they are both clean and tight.
