Increasing idle on '84 2.5 (Page 1/1)

Hi all, I have run into a problem with my '84s idle, it will start around 1200, then would die without gas, stay low for about 10 seconds and then right up to 2500 and slowly up to 3000 from there after about 10 minutes, all in warm weather. I have checked and replaced many of the vacuum lines on the vacuum diagram (and checked the brake booster), replaced the EGR and IAC valves, O2 sensor, MAP sensor, air intake gasket and searched the forum for solutions but the problem continues. I would think vacuum leak but the lines to the brake booster and EGR look solid, I would think it would need to be something massive like that to up the idle that much. I have not been able to drive it to test the idle very much as the manual really does not want to shift into 1st or 2nd, I think in large part due to the high idle. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you have two different issues.

Do you have trouble shifting into those gears (and/or Reverse) when the engine isn't running?

[EDIT] Looks like we've been down this road previously.

It is easier when it isn't running. It's not the same problem as in my previous posts, I think that clutch engagement issue with the master and slave was solved as it fully disengages with the clutch pedal in. Just wanted to mention that I haven't been able to drive it to see how it behaves on the road yet- I think because of the high idle making it hard to get into the lower gears.
