won't start, dings when depressing brakes or trying to start (Page 1/1)
jwalker MAY 12, 01:20 PM
I replaced the brake lines recently in my 86' GT and now it won't start. It was dinging while I was bleeding the brakes. I'm done bleeding them but I still have the dinging if I press the brake pedal.

Is your parking brake engaged? On mine, sometimes the warning chime operates if the brake lever isn't fully depressed. Check the switch on the brake lever.

You can look here for the wiring diagrams. It may have what you need. http://fieroinfo.com/wiring/1986GTSchematics.pdf

Chime sounds may mean something or not.
not because the box may have problems.
chime may work but input(s) have problems
can have both at same time make harder to tell.
See my Cave, Chime Unit

car won't start has little or nothing w/ chime box.
That can be electrical, mechanic or both.
Tilt column have several things that can cause this because I-switch isn't pushed/pulled right as you turning the key. See my Cave, Steering
Electrical could be the starter, I-switch, wiring, and more.

Thank you both for your reply. It turns out it was two wires that go to the radiator fan. They're all chewed up. Not sure how that happened, but I suspect our westtie. She probably chased a critter up there and she'll stop at nothing to get it.
Can someone tell me what gage the wires are? Can I get electrical wire from AutoZone?
theogre MAY 14, 03:29 PM
Gauge is metric size in FSM and others.
"Power" wires to relay and motor is 3 mm2 close to 12awg.

⚠️ Caution: Generic Wire @ AZ and many others have Iffy insulation at best and won't last long in "HAZMAT" environments where oil etc can get spilled on them or in hot spaces. Try finding wire rated as 105°C for engine bay and front of Fiero. Might be better at Lowes or local electrical supplies shops.

⚠️ Caution: Any repairs there need to be "water proof." solder and "water proof" heat shrink or crimp w/ same preinstalled. Wires must be clean so the "glue" inside of heat shrink will seal.
If cannot get good crimp tool then don't bother. Cheap tool will cut crimp insulation more so w/ water proof heat shrink ends or cause other problems, even start a fire because of crap crimps they make.

⚠️ Note: Some wire chart list mm, mm2 or both. mm is Diameter, mm2 is Cross Section Area IE the Area seen when you Cut a wire.
All GM docs use mm2.
